Wivenhoe Trail closed for improvements

PUBLISHED: 3 October 2022

Work is due to start today (3rd October) on essential improvements to the Wivenhoe Trail. The work will include removing encroaching vegetation, improving drainage and laying of new granite pathways.

The work on the trail will ensure that walking and cycling routes in Colchester are maintained and accessible. The work will also improve connectivity for those living in Wivenhoe accessing the University and Colchester, as well as students and staff accessing the University.

The trail will be closed from Hythe Quays to Wivenhoe Rail Station from 3rd October to 14th November between 0700 and 1900. If safe to do so contractors may allow pedestrians to pass on the trail. The alternative route will be via The Avenue, Colchester Road, Boundary Road and Colne Causeway

The work has been jointly funded by Host student accommodation development at the Hythe, Essex County Council and supported by Sustrans.
